From the moment we are born and are able to focus our vision we are attracted to objects that draws our interest. We are keenly aware of the sights and sounds of our immediate vicinity and mostly we enjoy looking at the object of our attention. We do not understand why we enjoy looking at it but we still focus on it anyhow. Perhaps it’s the color, or possibly its size, or maybe it is the form, movement, or some pleasing sound; we do not know. To a baby that is the start of growing their mind. The brain begins to process what they are looking at and as they mature they reach out and touch it and after that develop a desire to hold it, explore it and possess it.
That desire and attraction begins at birth. We want to touch it, move it, change it, hide it and save it. We call these objects “toys“. Everyone, no matter how old we are plays with them and they give us happiness, comfort, security, fulfillment, and stimulation.
The definition of “Toy” is an object designed to be played with especially by children. A small ornament; a bauble; a trinket. A diminutive object, a copy of the larger original to amuse oneself. – (Universal Dictionary)
Toys stimulate children to explore and develop tactile dexterity, physical strength, agility, reasoning and the learning process of the mind to develop into an adult.
As children grow so their interests and attractions develop to more complex toys and games; even to the point that they modify or adapt the toys for uses other than what was originally intended; (even utilizing the boxes they came in!)
Toys tend to have a limited lifespan in terms of holding our interest as we grow and mature; they may be recycled to younger siblings or some ‘Treasures’ may become family keepsakes. However, every toy no matter how simple contributes to the amusement, learning and development of your children from Tikes to Teens.
